Sean O’ Brien is an award-winning architect with more than 20 years of experience working on complex large and small-scale projects, including residential buildings, academic and religious institutions, medical offices, libraries, galleries, museums, memorials, theatre and furniture.  He established so architecture in 2007 to develop a practice based on modernist principles that incorporates evolving technologies.

He has worked as a Senior Designer and Project Manager for notable architectural firms and artists, including: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, Theatre Designer Roger Morgan and Artist Joseph Kosuth.   At Richard Meier & Partners, he was the Senior Associate responsible for the design of the East River Condominiums, the largest residential development in New York City, as well as the Prospect Park Condominiums, which was awarded the Building Brooklyn Award by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

He is committed to community service.  As a design advisor to the Riverside South Planning Corp. dedicated to the revitalization of Manhattan’s West Side, he was instrumental in the design of a master plan for a large-scale residential development that integrated sustainability and open green space. Member organizations include respected civic groups such as The Municipal Art Society and the Regional Plan Association.

His firm  was awarded the Honor Award, the highest distinction given to an architect or architectural firm from the American Institute of Architects, New York Chapter, which cited his work as “very elegant” and   “beautiful.” He also won the prestigious American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum, which recognizes the most significant architectural designs in the United States.

Sean O’Brien  is a licensed architect in New York and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the US Green Building Council.  He is currently developing prefabricated houses that incorporate advanced green technology and passive energy technologies.  He lives in Brooklyn and is a proud father of two energetic children.
